This month, MaxProf participated in the SALGA North West and Free State Provincial Members’ Assemblies (PMAs), held on 9-10 and 17 September, respectively. MaxProf’s mandate is simple: to strengthen local government revenue sustainability through our VAT and Tax Optimisation services.
The South African Revenue Service (SARS) has intensified its VAT compliance drive across the municipal sector, launching full-scope audits on more than 200 municipalities. The outcomes of these audits, including the attachment of municipal bank accounts, can place significant financial pressure on municipalities and further exacerbate existing service delivery challenges.
MaxProf aims to position municipalities in a favourable financial position by ensuring VAT compliance and identifying opportunities to enhance revenue. Through VAT reviews, we address the high-risk areas that SARS focuses on such as, INEP grants, VAT apportionment calculations and application, principal/agent VAT determination, and interest on Eskom and Water boards payments.
Incorrect VAT treatment triggers interest and penalties, this highly technical area requires equally specialised expertise. MaxProf assists municipalities in reviewing and challenging penalties and interest where appropriate, helping to minimise unnecessary costs that hinder service delivery.
Our continued support of and participation in SALGA PMAs reflects our commitment to helping municipalities fulfil their mandates through effective VAT and Tax Optimisation solutions.
