Every year on 18 July, South Africans and people around the world come together to honour Nelson Mandela’s legacy by giving 67 minutes of their time to serve others. This Mandela Day, the MaxProf team had the privilege of spending our 67 minutes at the Lodewyk P. Spies Home in Pretoria, a place that embodies compassion, dignity, and care for the elderly. From the moment we arrived, we were met with warm smiles, open arms, and a deep sense of community that left a lasting impression on each of us.
Moments of Joy and Connection
Our time was spent in the simplest yet most powerful of ways, sharing stories, laughter and heartfelt conversations. The highlight? A dance competition that brought out joy and energy from everyone in the room. Two winners walked away with prizes, but the real reward was the sheer delight that radiated from those moments.
A Gesture of Giving
In addition to our time, the MaxProf team also made a heartfelt donation to the home, aimed at supporting their ongoing care and wellbeing initiatives. We believe that meaningful impact comes not only from being present, but also from sharing resources that can uplift and empower.
Living Madiba’s Message
“There can be no greater gift than that of giving one’s time and energy to helping others.” – Nelson Mandela
These words felt more meaningful than ever as we listened to the residents shared their stories, their challenges, and their joys. Their resilience and warmth inspired us all.
Service Beyond a Day
Mandela Day is not about a once-off act. It’s about creating a ripple of kindness and care that carries into every day. At MaxProf, we believe corporate responsibility means investing in the wellbeing of our communities, not just on Mandela Day, but throughout the year.
As we reflect on our visit to the Lodewyk P. Spies Home, we are reminded that it doesn’t take much to brighten someone’s day, a listening ear, a shared joke, a warm touch. These moments, though small, are powerful. They embody the spirit of Madiba, whose life taught us that kindness and service are the cornerstones of humanity.
With Gratitude
We extend our heartfelt gratitude to the staff and residents of Lodewyk P. Spies Home for welcoming us so warmly and allowing us to be part of such a meaningful day. Your dedication and love for your community are truly inspiring.
